Myrtle Beach, South Carolina is part of a 50 mile stretch of coastline along the Atlantic Ocean that is called the Grand Strand. This 50 miles stretch encompasses both Horry and Georgetown counties. There are several communities that make up the Grand Strand area including:

  • Myrtle Beach- Myrtle Beach is the largest and most recognized community. Over 14 million visitors a year think these attractions are worth a trip. Vacations in Myrtle Beach began over a century ago when families would travel by horse and buggy, ferry across the Waccamaw River, and continue on to "New Town," which was Myrtle Beach's original name. Myrtle Beach became a city 1957 and has grown steadily to become one of the most popular vacation destinations in the country.
  • Little River- The northernmost of the Real Estate in Myrtle Beach communities is Little River. The Indian tribes that lived in the area called the local stream "Mineola," which means "little river." Today, Little River is widely known for its deep-sea fishing, charter boats and commercial fishing. Little River is home to several championship golf courses, shopping centers, new homes, and condominiums.
  • North Myrtle Beach- About thirty years ago the Myrtle Beach area communities of Windy Hill, Crescent Beach, Ocean Drive, and Cherry Grove united to form a new town called North Myrtle Beach. Today, North Myrtle Beach features several championship golf courses, modern shopping malls, new homes, and luxurious oceanfront hotels and condominiums.
  • Atlantic Beach- Nicknamed the Black Pearl, Atlantic Beach was established around 1934 as an oceanfront community for blacks during the days of segregation. Today, Atlantic Beach is host to the largest gathering of black motorcycle enthusiasts in the country. Bike Fest is the fourth largest bike rally in the U.S. and the largest single event in South Carolina.
  • Surfside Beach- This Myrtle Beach Community is known as the "Family Beach." Along it's beachfront, you'll find that the beach houses still outnumber the high-rises.
  • Garden City- With access to the ocean on one side and Murrells Inlet on the other, Garden City Beach is a hot spot for fishing, crabbing, and other water sports. The community has a fishing pier, marina, amusements, restaurants, and many other businesses.
  • Murrells Inlet- Murrells Inlet is known as "the Seafood Capital of South Carolina." This community gets its title from the fresh fish, clams, oysters, and crabs pulled from the local waters and prepared in the many restaurants located along the waterfront.
  • Pawley's Island- Pawley's Island is one of the oldest summer resorts on the east coast. And, even in this hectic day and age, the laid back life that is Pawley's Island is a true testament to the Pawley's Island slogan "Arrogantly Shabby."
