Family Time

Spend Thanksgiving in Myrtle Beach this Year

The start of Thanksgiving for many families begin with the adults and children, gathering in front of the television watching The Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. As the aroma of the turkey cooking in the oven or the preparation begins in the kitchen. Spend part of the day spending time with your loved ones by playing board games or a game of UNO. Then have a wonderful Thanksgiving meal sitting in the dining room of your rental and taking a walk on the beach afterwards. Spending the day with your family means you get all the quality time in the world with them. Sometimes we all like to be too busy to sit down and not a do a thing once in a while. Make this holiday the best one you’ve had in a long time.

Beautiful Views

Even during the off-season, Myrtle Beach is nothing but beautiful to visit. Spending Thanksgiving watching the waves roll in and out while you wait for dinner to be ready is a perfect day. You may see many families on the beach enjoying the sunlight or you may see families having their pictures taken they can use as their Christmas cards. Take a nice long walk on the beach while watching the sunset or collecting seashells with the kids can be just as exciting as being at the beach for the holiday weekend.

Perfect Weather

5 Ways Your Kids Can Help with the Move

5 Ways Your Kids Can Help with the Move

Moving to a new home can be exciting but also stressful for both you and your kids. But if you allow your kids to help get in on the move and preparing to move, then it will be better on your whole family. Give your kids some responsibilities that will not only keep them entertained but will also make them feel important during this big move. We at Sloan Realty have compiled a list to help you and your family make this move as stress-free as you can.

House Hunting

5 Ways Your Kids Can Help with the Move

The first stage of moving is finding another home to live in. Let your kids provide you with some input on where to move to. Bring them when you go look at a house or two and ask for their opinions on the home. You will learn some important insights from them about what they thought of the house and what they didn’t. This will help the kids be able to adjust a little better if they are included in the decision making when it comes to where you move to.  Finding a house just isn’t about what you like, but it’s what the whole family loves.

Letting Things Go

When moving, one rule of thumb to remember is less is best. Honestly, you never know how much stuff you have until you start to pack. Then it seems you find everything that you haven’t used in years. A good rule of thumb for getting rid of things easier is if you haven’t used it in the past two years just let it go. This goes for your kids too, if they have clothing or toys that they haven’t worn or played with in years, let it go. But allowing your kids to help get rid of things is the best as they can say what they want to bring with them to the new house. If your kids are having a hard time parting with something, just let them know that there are less fortunate children out there who have nothing. Most times, this works like a charm and it helps them feel like they are doing something special too.

Label Boxes

5 Ways Your Kids Can Help with the Move

After you have packed up a box or more, let your kids label the boxes. Asking them to help participate in with packing will help them adjust a little better too. And when you are finished packing up each room, finding them will hopefully be a little easier. Just including your kids in something like labeling the boxes can make them more excited for moving.

Let’s Clean Up

After the house or say each room is packed up and hopefully on a truck headed to your new home, you will want to clean it. But cleaning the house on your own can be stressful, so why not let your kids help. Even toddlers can help clean up like wiping down surfaces and sweeping corners. If you assign each kid with a cleaning task appropriate for their age then your old home will be clean in no time. By middle school, your kids should be capable of doing things such as vacuuming, dusting and wiping the fridge clean. Just remember to not give the tasks to your kids if it involves using a lot of chemicals. But asking for help with the dusting, vacuuming, sweeping and more can help you not feel so stressed out.

Unpack their Room First

5 Ways Your Kids Can Help with the Move

Once you have moved into your new home, you want to get your kids involved in the unpacking process. Put them in charge of unpacking their own boxes for their new room. Let them put their books on their bookshelf or their clothes in their dresser or closet. Just remember that you can always go back and rearrange what they have done if you don’t like it. But asking for their help with unpacking can help you as well. Once they have finished their bedrooms, then you can ask them to help put away other boxes in the house. This will help them feel important and will have less anxiety about moving to a new home. Make this process fun for them as they too are adjusting to a new home.

There are many other things or ways to help your child not be stressed about moving, but these are a few we thought you would like. If you haven’t moved yet but are thinking of moving to the Myrtle Beach area, then please give us a call at 800-476-1760. We hope that you and your family can have a stress-free move.

Preparing Your Home to Place on the Market in the Myrtle Beach Area

5 Tips for Preparing Your Home to Place on the Market

We understand that preparing your home to place on the market can be difficult. So, we compiled a small list that can help you get your home ready for the market in the Myrtle Beach area. We at Sloan Realty can help you with putting your home up on the market and getting the best value for your home. Let’s look below at a few steps and things you can do to help get your home ready to sell.

Closet Space

When it comes to selling your home, storage is something that every home buyer is looking for. If they are coming from a small home or even an apartment, their storage space for closets have been limited. So here is a little tip for you, take half of the stuff out of your closets then neatly organize them. The buyers will snoop to see the closet space, so keep all your closets and cabinets clean and tidy.

Kitchen is the Heart of the Home

5 Tips for Preparing Your Home to Place on the Market

Did you know that the kitchen is the heart of the home? It’s where you as a family may have gathered to spend time together and it’s the kitchen that many home buyers are looking at. They are looking for a kitchen that feels like it was made just for them. If your cabinets are old or look outdated, then update them or change them a bit. You can do this without having to spend a ton of money to freshen it up. If you have a little extra money, buy one fancy stainless steel appliance for your kitchen. Reason being is when people see one high-end appliance, they think that the rest are expensive, and it updates the kitchen. Also, give the walls a new neutral color so that the new homeowners can envision their own style.

Take the Home out of your House

One of the most important things to remember when selling your home is to depersonalize it. Take the more personal things out of the house or pack them away before staging your home. This helps because it not only keeps things private for you, but also allows the potential buyers to imagine themselves living there. Staging is everything and you want to make sure that your furniture is arranged to showcase the floor plan the best. Make your home be the home that everyone wants!

Always Be Ready to Show

We understand that life can become busy and hard to want to keep clean. When you have your home on the market you have to always be ready for a potential homebuyer to come see the home. You have to have your home in tip-top shape and that means not leaving dirty dishes in the sink and keeping the dishwasher cleaned out. Also, it means making sure that your bathrooms are clean and there are no dust bunnies in the corners of your living room. It may seem like it could be an inconvenience but keeping your home clean will help it sell.

First Impression is the Only Impression

5 Tips for Preparing Your Home to Place on the Market

As potential homebuyers come in and see your home, the first impression is the only impression. Buyers have already judged your home before they walk through the front door. So, it’s important that you make people feel welcome, warm and safe as they approach your home. Curb appeal is everything, so sprucing up the landscaping will go a long way. You will typically get a 100% return on the money you put into your homes curb appeal. Make your entry way warm and inviting by adding a small bench, a console table with some fresh cut flowers in a vase.

Now that you have completed the list on how to prepare your home for the market, allow us to help list it for you. We at Sloan Realty take pride in being your realtor and hope that we can help you find a new home in the process of selling yours. Give us a call today at 843-449-0835 and allow us to help you sell your home and find a forever home in the process. We’d love to get you the perfect home or vacation home in the Myrtle Beach area.

10 Questions Every Buyer Should Ask Prospective Realtors

When it comes to buying a new home you will want to have a compatible Realtor on your side working on your behalf to find you that perfect home. Choosing a Realtor doesn't have to be a complicated process but just as you’ll look at various houses to find the perfect one to call home, so should you interview various real estate agents. You’ll know when you find the right one because it will be a good fit from the start and they will listen closely to what you want and don’t want.

Following are 10 important questions you should be sure to ask your prospective agent. The answers may vary but it's up to you to decide whom you feel most comfortable with.

1. How long have you worked in this area selling real estate? Is this your full-time job?
2. Are you a Realtor, an agent or a broker? Please explain the differences to us.
3. How many homes did you and your agency sell in the past year?
4. How close to the asking price were the homes that you sold?
5. Will you be advising us on what is an acceptable vs. a non-acceptable offer?
6. Can we trust you to work with us right through the closing?
7. Will you be able to recommend other service providers that we will need – home inspectors, mortgage companies, contractors?
8. What is your own personal business philosophy when it comes to helping families with buying and selling real estate?
9. What types of specific techniques and approaches will you use to find us a home?
10. Will you provide us with the names and phone numbers of recent clients you’ve worked with who have agreed to be references?

At Sloan Realty we believe the answers you’re given to these 10 questions will help you in choosing a Realtor to be in your corner when it comes to buying your next home. We’d love to be that Realtor and would be happy to talk with you about what you’re looking for. Please feel free to call us at 843-449-0835 or 1-800-476-1760.
